Shoes Are Key

As you know, I am starting to train to compete in a 5K (and by compete, I mean finish it without walking), then work my way toward being a real runner.  Just as a construction worker has his wrenches and screwdrivers, a runner must also have the right tools.  In this case, it is the shoes.

Before today, I was running with a $20 pair of "running" shoes that I had picked up at Target.  Today I realized exactly why they were so cheap.  Those buggers hurt!  After putting a few miles on them, they were already wearing out.  So, I did what any rational person would do and went to buy some new ones at RoadRunner Sports.

Now, I don't know if you have ever been to one of these stores, but they are fantastic!  The staff is really friendly and approachable.  Best of all, however, is that they have this awesome program called Shoe Dog that helps identify the perfect show for your needs... And it's free!!!  I was able to get some good shoes that last longer, as well as some personalized insoles to help with my high arches.  It was a little more pricy, but worth it for the long run (no pun intended).  Now, just to get out there and use them.  Hopefully they don't take too long to break in.

Accountability Exercise of the Day:
